A SPOTLIGHT ON MOYA ACTIVITIES AND PROGRESS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2024

Welcome to the 2024 first edition of the Moya Centre Newsletter! We’re excited to share with you some of the interesting activities that have taken place since the beginning of the year. We’ve also made some new developments and reached some exciting achievements!

EDUCATION

We have profiled and enrolled 103 learners in the year 2023, across four of our partner High Schools; Lobamba Lomdzala, Lobamba National, St Anne’s, and St Bosco High Schools. Stationery and basic uniform items were distributed to the learners. After the stationery distribution and stationery process was completed we successfully held a parents and guardians meeting for sponsored high school learners, to inform both guardians and learners of the criteria to stay in the Moya program.

Moya also introduced a new way to promote literacy in our partner schools and community clubs by distributing books to every school, which aims to improve the reading and writing skills of children in our community. The initiative has already positively impacted, with many children and schools expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to improve their literacy skills. We believe that this initiative will help to instill a love of reading and writing in the hearts of our community’s children and young people.

SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH RIGHTS & HIV

Our  Sexual Reproductive Health program under the PIP Program, held their first reflection meeting for the year. The purpose of this session was to measure the impact of this initiative in transforming the perspectives and behaviors of these young people. This initiative is supported by the Church of Zurich and aims to empower the youth with SRHR education, HIV Management, Climate change education, and income generation skills.

YOUTH EMPOWERNMENT

Moya’s Design Your Future program had an amazing session/workshop for the year opening, where we invited a guest speaker (Mancoba Dludlu) to motivate and share his inspiring story of overcoming challenges and achieving his goals, despite challenges. Students were asked to reflect on the challenges they have also faced in life that required them to exhibit a high level of resiliency. After the session, all the students were inspired and ready to face their challenges to achieve their goals.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

We are still in the recruitment process for a new Executive Director after Mrs. Nomcebo Makhubu Sifundza’s exit at the end of 2023. In the interim, founder and Treasurer Ms. Jane Cox is performing Directorial duties.

On our YouTube channel we have started covering the impact of our programs through the stories and experiences of our clients. For our family who do not like to read or prefer visuals, we encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel. Please click on the link below.

Out of ten Design Your Future students, seven have already completed their courses and we are left with only three students who are still at school.

Most of our SRH Youth groups, through their cooperatives, are now successfully operating their small business.

We are committed in advocating for vulnerable children and supporting the community of Lobamba Lomdzala.
